We're hiring! Join the Making Caring Common team

Please share these two new openings with your networks!

  1. We're looking for an experienced Program Director to oversee our portfolio of school and parenting/family programs. Candidates should have strong administration and project management skills, experience working in schools and/or with parents, and experience with research. This is a really special opportunity to help launch our new national Caring Families program for parents and caregivers in addition to leading MCC's work with schools.

  2. We're also hiring a College Admissions Program Manager to manage our campaign to promote ethical engagement, reduce achievement pressure, and level the playing field for low-income students in the college admissions process. Candidates should have substantial experience in college admissions (as an admissions officer, college counselor, etc.). This is a part-time, benefits-eligible position.

Interested candidates should apply through the Harvard Employment website. Both positions are located in our Cambridge, MA office.

It's National Voter Registration Day!

Voting is a cornerstone of civic engagement and one way that young people can learn more about the needs of their communities.

If you're a Harvard student, accept the Harvard Votes Challenge.

If you're an educator or parent, help the young adults in your life register to vote.

Not old enough to vote? Work with your school to implement our Caring Community Youth Capstone or find another way to encourage civic engagement among the students at your school.

The Heartwarming Project

Making Caring Common has teamed up with the Hershey Company on the Heartwarming Project, a new initiative focused on helping kids and families build meaningful connections.

This next year, we will be collaborating with Hershey, Boys & Girls Club, and WE.org to promote social and emotional connections at home, school, and in the community. Stay tuned for more!

For schools: Less bullying, more caring

Deadline approaching!

Work with the Making Caring Common team to use data and light-lift strategies to improve school culture and climate and to build key skills in students.

To learn more about our Caring Schools Network, visit our website or book a time to speak with Glenn Manning, our Senior Program Coordinator. We hope you'll join us in this important work!

Youth Advisory Board applications are open!

Tell the high schoolers in your life about Making Caring Common's Youth Advisory Board!

The Youth Advisory Board is a diverse group of young people from across the country who are committed to making schools more caring and respectful places through everyday interactions.

We especially want young people who are not typically identified as leaders in their schools, those who may be socially marginalized, and those who represent minority groups within their school community to apply.

Note: The application deadline is Friday, October 12 at 11:59pm ET.

More opportunities for teachers and school leaders

We thought the following opportunities from our friends would be of particular interest to teachers and schools leaders:

HGSE Professional Education offers a wide range of courses and workshops throughout the year. This fall, their "Instructional Rounds" course and their two-week-long online workshops seem particularly well suited to the Making Caring Common community.

The Middle School Kindness Challenge once again includes Making Caring Common's research-based, low-lift strategies. Sign up for the fall cycle!

Character Day is a free day and global initiative where school districts, individual classrooms, companies, organizations, and families screen films on the science of character development from different perspectives, dive into free printed discussion materials catered to different ages, and join an online global Q&A conversation. Sign up and join the global movement on September 26, 2018.

HGSE Professional Education offers a wide range of professional development opportunities, including the intensive course "Instructional Rounds" offered this fall
