In June, Turning the Tide endorser University of Chicago dropped its SAT/ACT requirement and instituted more changes in its admissions process to increase access for first-generation, low-income students; Making Caring Common and the KIND Foundation announced that students at Medford High School won the KIND Schools Challenge for their project welcoming English Language Learners; and our research on misogyny and sexual harassment was featured in the news. Registration is now open for the 2018-2019 Caring Schools Network!
Through a unique partnership with Making Caring Common, schools in the Caring Schools Network build caring, inclusive school communities where students feel safe and supported and learn to become responsible and constructive members of a community.
The Caring Schools Network helps schools use their data to better understand how students, staff, and parents experience their school community. In addition, the Caring Schools Network gives schools access to easy-to-implement research-based strategies that promote children’s social and emotional learning, increase caring and connectedness, and reduce problem behaviors.

We're so excited to announce the winners of the national KIND Schools Challenge! Students Rubia Fernandes, Luiza Barbosa, and Jenna Agnone along with their faculty advisor Michael Skorker are making their school a more welcoming place for English Language Learners and immigrants. Learn more about their project then adopt it in your own school community.
The KIND Schools Challenge is a national program run by Harvard’s Making Caring Common and the KIND Foundation, a charitable entity started by KIND Healthy Snacks, to create more caring and inclusive schools.
Talking across the aisle at St. Luke's School
"St. Luke's is a very 'purple' school politically, with a real mix of right and left. We started these groups so that we could practice the skills of listening with a curious ear (thus, "Curious Conversations") rather than an evaluative or judgmental ear. We all need to practice listening to understand the other person, asking questions to deepen our understanding rather than trying to trap the other person or 'win' a discussion."
We connected with Elizabeth Perry, Head of the Upper School at St. Luke's School, to learn more about their "Curious Conversations" programming as part of the Caring Schools #CommonGood campaign and how it's helping students talk across the aisle.
