A Tool for Reflection: How is your school contributing to the school-to-prison pipeline?
Included in the toolkit are a series of questions to spur honest reflection on how a school’s current disciplinary practices could be perpetuating the school-to-prison pipeline and recommendations for ways to start addressing or preventing the problem.

Being Friends with Failure*
Grounded in the practice of self-compassion, this strategy cultivates in middle and high school students a sense of awareness into their struggles and capacities to overcome them. Over a series of lessons, students practice self-kindness, recognize the common humanity in all of us, and learn to be constructively mindful of their negative thoughts and feelings.

Better Thinking: Trauma-Informed Professional Development*
A set of professional development activities to assist school personnel in better identifying and supporting students who have experience or are experiencing adverse childhood experiences. Tips for creating a more trauma-sensitive classroom and school are provided.

Documentary Theatre*
Based on the work of documentary theater, this strategy is designed to foster empathy in middle and high school students through low-key drama techniques. After learning about documentary theater and practicing some basic listening and interviewing skills, students interview one another to then embody and perform each others' personal experiences.

Educating Against Gender Bias*
This strategy is specifically aimed at older elementary school students to engage in activities surrounding gender stereotyping and bias and how to overcome them. Teachers are also given general tips and tools for creating a more gender inclusive classroom.

Listen to Our Senses
Based on meditation exercises, this strategy includes brief routines to cultivate in K-8 students the habit of recognizing and responding to one's sensations.
